Severing Old Ties with LuxVue, Opens New Doors with TSMC, Apple Speeds up Mass Production of Micro-LED Panels
Recently, Apple claimed that it will be working close with the tech giants, TSMC in order to resolve multiple manufacturing issues the company itself is observing to prevent. Previously, it was becoming a hindrance to keep track of the progress with mass production of developing micro-LED display panels but not anymore.
It is because they Cupertino company wants to offer greater efficiency, greater brightness and strong color saturation with power efficiency to all of its users around the world. And to supervise and optimize effective implementation of this plan, Apple is taking drastic steps indeed! An inside leak reveals that the company wants to work with only the best; therefore, it has considered on downsizing teams working on the Micro-LED Program in Taiwan.
Back in 2014, LuxVue, A Taiwanese research company, introduced the Micro-LED technology to Apple. But now, it is heard that Apple is looking forward to make a major shift of its Research and Development program in Taiwan back to Apple headquarters in USA. It is because Apple is now taking the mass production of Micro-LED display rather seriously.
Recently, Apple sends ripple of excitement around the world with its immense breakthrough with the launch of the new iPhone X. It further introduced the concept of AR and how AR is going to transform the world for most Apple users. To see its lifelong dream turn into reality, Apple is opting in for maximizing the production of Micro-LED display units so it can provide better smartphone and wearables to loyal fans.
Apple strongly focuses on giving all the users an ultimate AR/VR experience. Although, the OLED technology was exceptionally worth addressing, but with the Micro-LED Display technology it is now opting to supersede the world of smart technologies. It is obvious that Apple fuels innovation and others are simply compelled to follow it on in its wake.
The Micro-LED technology is designed to give higher brightness, better contrast ratio, better color saturation, in-depth hue, faster response time and a longer durability as compared to OLED panels. Also, the Micro-LED technology panels are going to be a lot thinner as compared to the OLED panels
According to Sources:
“The slow progress in the development of the mass transfer technology is believed to impede related panel makers from realizing volume production of Micro LED panels in the short term, and therefore persuading Apple to realign the personnel of the Micro LED team”
To take an alternatively better approach, Apple is approaching TSMC. As the sources quote:
“Apple is reportedly collaborating with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to develop applications based on silicon-based backplanes (silicon wafers) aiming to sidestep the bottleneck that entails with the mass transfer of LED chips, indicated the sources.”
Let’s hope this new partnership works well between Apple and TSMC and help Apple overcome obstacles to achieve mass production of Micro-LED displays in a flawless manner.
